How to disable Webcam in Windows 10/8/7 laptop:- Integrated cameras on computers can be pretty useful especially if you enjoy using Skype or similar video calling programs. But those of you who don’t have much use for the camera might be irritated by it as it is enabled by default on Windows 10. Moreover, built-in webcams are in these days and any user would be hard pressed to find a new version of Windows without an inbuilt camera. Security concern is a valid reason why you might want to disable your webcam, as webcams are often easy targets for malware. Regardless of the rapid advancement of technology and the new security measures Windows 10 has come up with, webcams remain an effective tool for suspicious sources to hack into your system and spy on you.

You could always take the help of external software to disable the webcam, but why go to all that trouble when you could easily use the Device Manager method?

Just follow these simple steps to disable the built in camera for your laptop/PC:

1. Use Windows +R shortcut keys to open the Run command box or manually open it from the Start menu.
2. Type in ‘devmgmt.msc’ in Run and press the Enter key.

Alternatively – Just search device manager in search box of windows 10 taskbar. Click on device manager.

• In the Device Manager, select ‘Imaging devices’ from the given list.

Note: – In some other laptops / pc of some other manufacturers, you may find this under different names in place of imaging devices such as: –

Sound, video and game controllers or cameras

• Under Imaging Devices, right click the ‘Integrated Camera’ option and click on Disable. You will get a message saying ‘Disabling this device will cause it to stop functioning. Do you really want to disable it?” Clicking on Yes will disable the camera.

If the camera option does not say Integrated Camera, don’t get confused, the name of your webcam will be displayed in that space.

Note :- In case you feel the need to use your webcam later, just follow the above mentioned steps and select Enable after right clicking on the camera option.

If you want to check that your inbuilt webcam has truly been disabled, click on the Start button and navigate to Camera. If you see the message ‘Connect to camera’, your webcam has been disabled successfully. In the event the webcam seems to be still functioning, you have probably disabled another device, not the inbuilt webcam, and will have to go back to the Device Manager and choose the correct device to disable.

The Device Manager method will work on Windows 10 as well as Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.

Some Precautions For Webcam

Apart from using this method, there are some safety precautions you can take to protect your camera’s privacy. For instance, you could try covering up the camera with opaque tape or a cloth when it is not in use. Anti-virus is essential if you do use your webcam- a good anti-virus may not always be able to guarantee complete protection against webcam hackers, but it can check files received through the webcam and issue warnings if it contains malware. Hence it is a prudent measure for users with integrated camera on their computers.

A lot of third party software will also help you in disabling the webcam, but most users would prefer to use the simple Device Manager method, which unlike any external software does not involve downloading anything. This method is also fool-proof and hundred percent reliable, making it the best way to disable built in web camera.

Step (1). Go to Settings – > System -> Storage -> Change how we free up space

Step (2). Now, Click on Clean now to clean all temp files.

Also Clear all Kind of Windows 10 Cache to clear Cache and Improve Internet speed.

Solution 4:- Disable Windows Update Service

Although disabling windows update service is not recommended, as it’s always good to keep your PC updated to the latest version of Windows 10 OS, but if you are really struggling with your internet speeds and you want high download speed for a particular file for few days, then you can definitely disable windows 10 update service. You always have the option of turning it on anytime in future.

Step (1). Search services in windows 10 taskbar search.

Step (2). Click on services.

Step (3). Now, Once the services manager window opens up, just find windows update from the list.

Step (4). Just Click on stop to stop it.

Step (5). Now, change startup option to disabled from the dropdown.

Step (6). Now, reboot your PC.

Solution 5:- Disable / Enable Ethernet Or Wifi In Network And Sharing Centre

Step (1). Go to network and sharing centre.

Step (2). Now, click on change adapter settings from left menu.

Step (3). Now, right click on Ethernet or wifi (Whichever you are currently using for the internet) and disable it. Do a right click again and enable it. Just resets the internet.

In Case You Are Using A Router

If you are on Wifi and using a router, just do this. Turn off the router by disconnecting it from electricity. Wait for 10 seconds and then turn it on again. This fixes the slow internet issue most of the time for all version of windows.

Uninstall Onenote App

If you do not use OneNote anyway, you need to uninstall it to save bandwidth spent on syncing files and folders. It also makes your windows 10 system slow and lagging.

To uninstall OneNote just search OneNote , just search OneNote in the search box of windows 10, do a right click and uninstall, it.

How to find out the version / Build of Windows Operating system

Sometimes you may want to find out exactly which version of windows OS you are running on your PC. It may be required if you are installing a new software and you want to make sure that its compatible with your version of Windows OS. Here is how to check your Windows OS version.

Method 1 – Find Out The Windows Version / Build Using Run Command

(1). Hold Windows logo key and press R key on your keyboard.

(2). Once the run command box windows opens up, type winver in it and hit enter.

(3). Now,  the windows just popped up will tell you which version of windows OS and build you are running on your PC.

To find out about the build name you can just google the build number.

Method 2 – Find Out Windows Version And Build Using Settings

(1). Open Settings.

(2). Now, Click on System

(3). Now, In the left Menu Click on about.

(4). Scroll down to the section Windows specifications in the right.

Note: Here your windows edition whether its home or pro is shown. Also the build number and versions are written in this section.

Method 3 – Find Your Windows Version Using CMD

(1). Open Command prompt.

(2). The version Number is always written at the top in Command prompt window.

(3). To find more information such as build number of your windows OS, write the command given below and hit enter.

Method 4 – Find Windows Version And Build Using Registry Editor

(1). Press and hold windows logo key and press R on your keyboard to open run.

(2). Now, type regedit in it.

(3). Now, in the registry editor go to the following location from the left side menu.

CurrentVersion

(4). In the right side all the build number, version number are written.

Method 5 – Find Out Windows Using System Information Window

(1). Press and hold windows logo key and then press pause key on your PC.

(2). In the window that comes, the windows edition is clearly written.

Note: – You can also find out other info such as whether its 32 bit or 64 bit.

How to Create A Virtual Hard Disk On Windows 10

We all have the partitioned physical hard disk drives on our system. But then, how does a VHD    ( Virtual hard disk ) differ from the physical hard disk?

Here you go. VHDs are mainly used as hard disks for virtual machines. They completely mimic what the hard disks in our computers have.VHDs too have the same directory structure which is composed of files and folders and the disk partitions. If it has the same structure, you might wonder why would you ever require a separate VHD then! If Microsoft has launched such a feature, then there must be something special about it.

VHDs can easily be backed up and they allow you to create dynamic volumes, because of which you need not allocate the disk spaces altogether. You need not actually partition your hard drive for this purpose and they can be easily accessed by means of local networks. Also once you create a dynamic VHD and install an operating system, there are options to dual boot it. As they are dynamic, no much space is needed to be allocated for them and also, the whole space can be regained back once you delete the VHD container file.

Steps: How to Create A Virtual Hard Disk On Windows 10

STEP (1) Open up the Administrative tools  app in yours Windows 10 by typing its name in the search bar.

STEP (2) Once it gets opened up in the Control Panel, towards the right pane you will find an option titled Computer Management shortcut. Double click on it.

STEP (3) Expand the option named Storage found in the left pane of the window that gets launched.You will find an option named Disk Management. Right click on it and choose the option Create VHD.

STEP (4) Once you do that, you will find that a window named Create and Attach VHD pops up. You will find a text box below the option Location.

Click the Browse button and choose the location where you want to store the VHD file.

Now, Choose a folder where you want to store the VHD file.

Also you can choose the size of the VHD by changing the number next to Virtual Hard disk size. The size by default,will be set in GB. You can change it to MB(megabytes) or TB(terabytes), if required.

Note: – You must have 1 GB space free on the drive in which you have stored the VHD folder if you choose 1 GB as the size of the Virtual hard disk.

Also, you have two options for creating virtual hard disk: –

• Fixed Size (It allocates a fixed size of virtual hard drive which you chose)
• Dynamically expanding (It does not allocate instantly the size chosen, but keep growing in size till the allocated size, as it grows in size.)

In my case, I have chosen the path ” S:\syslab\vhd.vhd” to store the corresponding VHD file and I have set its  size to 1 GB.

STEP (5) Choose on the option Dynamically expanding or Fixed size as the virtual hard disk type and click on the OK button.

STEP (6) Once you do the above steps, you will find the Virtual hard disk created, towards the right of the window. Right click on it and choose the option Initialize.This helps you to create new volumes on the disk.

Note: – Its recommended that you choose MBR (Master boot record).

STEP (7) Click OK on the alert message that pops up. Go back to the disk created, right click and choose the option  New  Simple Volume.

The Simple Volume wizard opens up and you will have to click on the Next button to modify the Settings.

STEP (8) Select the size of the volume you want to have and click again on the Next button.I have chosen the option that was set by default.

STEP (9) In the next window that appears, choose the drive letter with which you can name the volume. Once you are done with that, choose the Next button.

I have opted to name the drive as P.

STEP (10) In all the rest of the windows,keep clicking on the Next button in order to go with their default options .

Choose to format the new partition.

Finally, Click on the Finish button in the last window of the Simple Volume wizard.

STEP (11) You will find the new VHD creates in the Disk Management utility and the same will be apparent in the File Explorer too. Now, you are completely done with all the process of its creation.

STEP (12) Whenever you want to unmount the drive and retrieve back the space in the system’s memory, just right click on the VHD just created in the file Explorer.Click on the option Eject.The VHD will now be deleted.

Programs not responding in Windows 10/8/7

At times, you may have seen a message that some program had stopped responding on your Windows computer. The reasons for such Programs not responding or Program has stopped working or responding message could be many and there the troubleshooting options different too.

Today we will take a look at some other common scenarios where you may encounter a Program not responding message.

Programs not responding in Windows

If a Program is not responding, it means that a problem has occurred in the program and it is, therefore, interacting more slowly than usual with Windows. You can choose to wait for it to start working automatically or you can terminate or kill the process.

The probable cause for this are:

• Lack of computer resources available for the program to start or run properly
• Computer infected with malware
• Conflict between two software
• Incompatibility with the operating system version
• File or registry entries of the program may have been corrupted
• The actions you could take if you face such a situation are:

1. Terminate or kill the program process
2. Full scan your PC with your antivirus software.
3. Relaunch the program and see if it work
4. Restart the computer and see if it runs properly
5. See if the problem occurs when you boot in Clean Boot State. Here you can manually try and identify conflicts.
6. Reinstall the software
7. Disable hardware graphics acceleration and see.
8. If the program uses add-ins or extensions, start the program in Safe Mode and see. If need be, check the add-ins and disable or remove the offenders. To run a program in No add-ons mode or Safe Mode, you usually open the Run box, type the name/executable of the program and use the /safe parameter. Eg.  outlook /safe.
9. Try and increase the RAM.

One last thing! You could also optimize the computer for performance. Clean up Disk Space, uninstall unwanted programs, run the Program & System Maintenance Troubleshooters.

Open an elevated Command Prompt, type the following and hit Enter to run the Performance Troubleshooter.

msdt.exe /id PerformanceDiagnostic

This troubleshooter helps the user adjust settings to improve operating system speed and performance.

Printer not responding

If you receive a Printer not responding message run the Printer Troubleshooter and see. Make sure that you are using the latest version of the Printer Driver.

If you would like to remove the logo from the YouTube player before embedding it on to your website, all you need to do is make a minor edit to the default embed code that is provided by YouTube.

The default YouTube embed code for a video is something like:

&lt;iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-hX_rznqnM0" height="350"  width="575"></iframe>

If you would like to remove the YouTube branding and logo from the embedded player, add modestbranding=0 to the YouTube video URL as shown below:

The new “modestbranding” parameter for YouTube is supported for both Adobe Flash and IFRAME based embed codes that are HTML5 compatible.

reason why the video “YouTube” logo overlay appears is because the modestbranding option normally, by itself, still shows some branding – in the form of a small “YouTube” text overlay in the upper-right corner of the video, when you hover over it while the video’s paused. But since you explicitly asked for showinfo=0, we have no place to show the “YouTube” text overlay. So the alternative is to communicate that it’s a YouTube video player via the video overlay.
