Embed YouTube Videos without the YouTube Logo

Remove the YouTube Logo from the Video Player

If you would like to remove the logo from the YouTube player before embedding it on to your website, all you need to do is make a minor edit to the default embed code that is provided by YouTube.
The default YouTube embed code for a video is something like:

<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-hX_rznqnM0" height="350" width="575">
If you would like to remove the YouTube branding and logo from the embedded player, add modestbranding=0 to the YouTube video URL as shown below:
<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-hX_rznqnM0?modestbranding=1" height="350" width="575">
The new “modestbranding” parameter for YouTube is supported for both Adobe Flash and IFRAME based embed codes that are HTML5 compatible.
reason why the video “YouTube” logo overlay appears is because the modestbranding option normally, by itself, still shows some branding – in the form of a small “YouTube” text overlay in the upper-right corner of the video, when you hover over it while the video’s paused. But since you explicitly asked for showinfo=0, we have no place to show the “YouTube” text overlay. So the alternative is to communicate that it’s a YouTube video player via the video overlay.

How to Force YouTube Videos to Open In The YouTube Gaming Interface

How to Force YouTube Videos to Open In The YouTube Gaming Interface

Have you seen the dark, chat-focused user interface for YouTube Gaming? Google’s answer to game streaming site Twitch has some interesting features all its own, and it’s a pretty slick-looking to boot. But the distinction between regular YouTube and YouTube Gaming is… well, less than distinct.

Videos uploaded to YouTube that are “related to gaming” should automatically be available via gaming.youtube.com, but they’re also on the main YouTube website and visible from a standard YouTube search. If you’d like to switch from the basic UI to YouTube Gaming, just insert “gaming” into the URL before YouTube.

For example, here’s my favorite streaming YouTube music channel, which is intended to be played as background music for gamers. The standard URL is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRr4hEJT994

And it looks like this:

How to Force YouTube Videos to Open In The YouTube Gaming Interface

To open it in the darker Gaming interface with the game-specific recommendations, just go to your browser’s URL bar and replace the “www” prefix with “gaming”:

https://gaming.youtube.com/watch?v=qRr4hEJT994

Now it looks like this:

How to Force YouTube Videos to Open In The YouTube Gaming Interface

This adjustment seems to work with most videos, but those that aren’t tagged with a specific game won’t have game-specific recommendations. And of course the chat box won’t appear on pre-recorded videos, only live streams. YouTube Gaming is still fairly new as a Google product—the URL hack might not work in the future.

Watch YouTube Playlists Continuously on your iPad

YOUTUBE PLAYLISTS AND YOUR IPAD

The only inconvenient part is that iPad doesn’t support YouTube playlists. That means once a video stops playing, one has to manually play the next video in the queue. Neither the YouTube app nor the YouTube mobile site supports continuous playback of videos.

There are however iPad apps that let you play YouTube playlists in “gapless” mode just as you do on the desktop. One such app that I recommend is YTPlayer (YouTube player) – it’s a free app that is compatible with the iPhone as well as the iPad.

You provide your YouTube username, or that of someone else, and the app will fetch all your public video playlists and favorites. You can then watch any of the video playlist in continuous mode with a simple tap. The limitation is that this YouTube Player doesn’t connect with your Google Account and hence it cannot find your private playlists.

How to Sync PowerPoint Slides with Video

The enhanced version of President Obama’s State of the Union address is a bit different from the other Whitehouse video recordings in the sense that it incorporate presentation slides that go in complete sync with the speech video. You have the narrator’s video on one side of the pane while the other half displays the corresponding slide and these slides auto-advance as the video progresses.

So how do you create video based presentation slides in such a synchronized format?

If you are looking to create a Whitehouse-style presentation where the slides and the narrator’s video are made available as one video stream, you would need a professional video editing tool like Adobe Premiere Pro or Apple Final Cut – there you have the option to places images and video clips side-by-side on the same canvas, something that’s not possible with free video editors like Windows Live Movie Maker.

To get started, save your PowerPoint presentation slides as sequenced images and import them all to the timeline of your video editor. Transform the image sizes such that they occupy half the canvas.

Now import your video recording in a separate layer and resize such that the clip fits the left space. You might also have to change the duration of individual images in the timeline such that they stay in sync with the video. Export the video and upload it to your favorite video website.

The other good option is Microsoft Producer especially when you wish to host both the video and the slides on your own server.

This requires you to save the slides as images first and then you may use the wizard to sync your video recording with the slide images. The final presentation cum video is available as an HTML web page and though there are a quite a few design templates to choose from, you would still want to have something better.

Finally, you have web based solutions like Zentation, VCasmo and Knoodle where you just have to upload your presentation slides (as PDF or PPT) and the recorded video and they’ll handle the rest. If your presentation assets are already available on YouTube or SlideShare, you may directly fetch them into Zentation as well.

You get an easy-to-use web interface to individual slides with the video points and once you publish the changes, anyone can view the video presentation using a browser. In the case of VCasmo, you may even embed your synced video on external sites while Zentation only offers a full-screen player for free accounts.

Some screencasting software, Camtasia Studio for example, offer PIP effects that may also help you accomplish similar results but that would be way more complex if you have more than a few slides in your presentation.

How to Make YouTube a Little More Safe for your Kids

Whether you are looking for cartoons, videos of nursery rhymes or animated movies to keep your kids entertained, YouTube has them all.

A simple search reveals that YouTube currently has more than 65,000 “Mickey Mouse” videos and over 56,000 “Tom and Jerry” cartoons. Some of these videos may have ripped from DVDs and uploaded to YouTube illegally but that’s a different story.

The big problem with YouTube, or any other video sharing site on the Internet, is that that all videos may not be appropriate for children. You child may be watching a perfectly “safe for kids” video on YouTube but she may still accidentally stumble upon videos that aren’t suitable for her.

How do you prevent this? Google has a security filter in YouTube that, when turned on, will automatically hide objectionable videos from the site. To activate the safety mode, open the YouTube website, scroll to the bottom of the screen and toggle the link that says “Safety mode is off.”

This would block adult videos on YouTube and also clips that may have graphical images of violence. The following video explains how to enable the Safety Mode in YouTube.

Safety mode in YouTube is a temporary setting and the website will restore to its default (off) state once you close the browser. If you want to make this no-adult-content lock permanent, sign-in to YouTube with your Google Account and choose “Save and Lock Safety mode” instead of “Save.”

The Safety Mode in YouTube is a great option but it isn’t fool proof yet. This is because YouTube relies on the “crowd sourcing” model to determine age-restricted content – if the community doesn’t flag a video, the clip may bypass the Safety mode filter as well.

If you are still concerned, manually create a playlist on YouTube containing only videos that you want your kids to watch and then embed this playlist on another webpage , this will automatically hide all the other YouTube videos from your children. Alternatively, you can copy a YouTube playlist to your own YouTube account and modify the list for your kids.

YouTube doesn’t support Flash playlists inside the iPad but there are free apps that will help you kids watch the full playlist continuously.

Watch Bollywood Movies on YouTube

You can watch some of the popular Bollywood movies on YouTube for free using Zero Dollar Movies. These are full-length files available in Hindi and other Indian languages. Other than full-length movies, film trailers and Indian TV shows are also available on YouTube.

The collection is currently limited to movies from film producers like Shemaroo Entertainment, Rajshri and UltraHindi. And like most other YouTube videos, you can embed these movies on your site as well.

The movies are available in both High Quality and Standard Quality versions.

Just connect your computer to the TV screen, grab a snack and watch movies from the couch with your family. In addition to YouTube, you can also watch Hindi movies on the Yahoo! India Box Office website – these are again streamed free but supported by advertising.

How to Embed YouTube as an Audio Player

How do you embed the audio portion of any YouTube video into your website? An easy option would be that you convert the YouTube video into an MP3 file and upload it to an audio hosting site like Soundcloud. This will work but YouTube is very likely to have a problem with your approach due to copyright issues.

There’s a simpler approach as well that uses the official YouTube API and requires no file conversion.

How to Embed YouTube as an Audio Player

You can embed any YouTube video in your web pages and visitors on your site will be able to play and pause the video audio with a simple click. With this technique, you can also use a YouTube video as background audio that runs in a loop.

How to Embed YouTube Audio

It takes just one step to embed a YouTube audio. Open any YouTube video and make a note of the YouTube Video ID (a string of 11 characters).

Next copy-paste the code below anywhere on your website and replace VIDEO_ID with actual ID of your YouTube video.

There are few other configuration parameters that you can change depending on requirements. For instance, if you set data-autoplay to 1, the audio will begin playing immediately on page load. Likewise, set data-loop to 1 and the audio will play continuously in a never-ending loop until manually stopped.

This internally renders the YouTube video using the IFRAME player and would thus work on both desktop and mobile browsers.

The JavaScript files are hosted on Github while the images are hosted on Imgur. It is recommended that you copy the assets to your own server before deploying on a heavy-traffic website.

YouTube Audio – The Technical Details

We are using the YouTube JavaScript API that renders a regular YouTube player but with the width and height set to 0 pixels. When the user clicks the audio button, it toggles the existing YouTube player state and the video begins to play or pauses.

Here’s the annotated version of the source code. It can be extended to embed YouTube playlists, the default playback volume can be changed or you even embed a part of the video.

How to Watch YouTube Videos Not Available in Your Country

No, this is not about Internet censorship in countries like China or Pakistan where ISPs frequently block access to sites like YouTube following Government orders.

YOUTUBE VIDEOS BLOCKED IN YOUR COUNTRY

You could be staying in a country like US, UK or India but may not be able to watch every video on YouTube – that’s because the content owners have allowed access to that video only from certain countries or geographic regions.

If your computer’s IP address falls outside that geographic region, YouTube will display an error saying “This video is not available in your country” – this message has nothing to do with censorship, it’s the owner of the video clip who could be limiting access.

YouTube Filters in Action

For instance, a video uploaded to YouTube by Warner Brothers or Sony Entertainment may not be available outside US. Similarly, BBC videos on YouTube can only be watched from UK.

BBC has mentioned the reason behind region filtering on their official BBC Channel – “Because of the way that the BBC is funded in the UK through the license fee, we cannot make videos available outside of the UK”. Similarly the Olympic Games channel on YouTube is blocked in countries like US.

How to bypass YouTube Region Filtering ?

YouTube uses your computer IP address to determine your physical location / country. In order to bypass these country-specific restrictions on YouTube, try this trick:

If the URL of the YouTube video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEwD36Dk1jw – just replace the /watch?v= part with /v so your new URL becomes http://www.youtube.com/v/yEwD36Dk1jw.

Alternatively, you may download the YouTube video through a proxy and watch it offline. The other trick is that you type the YouTube video URL inside Google Translate and use this a free Google Proxy Server.

How to Embed YouTube Playlists in a Website

If you are planning to embed multiple YouTube videos on a web page, you may even consider putting all these videos into a single YouTube playlist and then embed the playlist into your page. This offers two advantages:

1. You can squeeze in more video content in the same amount of (visual) space.

2. A video playlist will reduce the (byte) size of your web page considerably because, technically, you now have to embed the YouTube Flash video player only once on your page.

HOW TO EMBED YOUTUBE VIDEO PLAYLISTS

The default embed code for any YouTube video playlist looks something like this (remember to replace the word “ID” with the actual YouTube playlist ID) :

<object width="480" height="385">
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/p/ID"></param>
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
<param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/p/ID" width="480" height="385"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always"
allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
If you find the above code confusing, there a much simpler way as well.

YouTube offers an IFRAME option for embedding individual videos and the same code can be extended to embed video playlists as well.

<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=ID"
width="100%" height="500" frameborder="0"></iframe>
You may have to modify the value of height and width attributes to make the video player fit your page.

What’s the advantage? The code looks clean and, going forward, Google could make these playlists HTML5 ready. Then your existing video playlist will play on browsers that don’t have the Flash plugin without you having to change the embed code.

Learn to Pronounce Difficult Words with YouTube Videos

If you don’t know the correct pronunciation of certain words or names and you are too embarrassed to ask, no worries as there are dozens of websites that can help you learn how to pronounce any word on your own.

The quickest option is Google. Use the define: search operator with any word and Google will show a little audio icon next to the word’s definition. Click the icon to listen to the audio pronunciation.

define:croissant [Google Dictionary Search]
The pronunciation feature in Google is however not available for non-English words or names of people but that is where YouTube videos can be of great help.

Let’s say we want to learn how to pronounce Eyjafjallajokull, the volcano that disrupted air travel across Europe in 2010 for several days. Here’s what you can do.

Go to YouTube.com and search for any word followed by “,cc” – this is a YouTube search operator that will only show videos that have closed captions.

Eyjafjallajokull, cc [YouTube search for videos with closed captions]
In YouTube search results, pick a video that has that particular word in the transcript. Then click the transcript button and jump to the line containing that word (see screenshot).

You can now hear the speaker in the YouTube video using that word and that should give you a good idea of the correct pronunciation. And since YouTube has users around the globe, you can use the same closed-captions trick to learn how a word is pronounced in different countries of the world – just pick a different video from the search results.

Watch Videos on your Computer without Interruptions

When watching web videos or DVD movies on your computer, your video playback may be interrupted in many different ways.

For instance, the screen saver can activate itself or the computer screen may enter sleep mode if you don’t touch the mouse or the keyboard for a long period (because you are busy watching the video). Sometimes, pop-up notifications from IMs and other programs, that are running in the background, can also interrupt playback.

You can easily turn-off these distractions through Windows Settings but the problem with this approach is that the changes will stay even when you are done watching the video. To give you an example, if you disable the screensaver before hitting play, it will stay in the disabled state forever unless you re-enable it manually.

Therefore, instead of fiddling with your existing configuration, you may consider using utilities that will also disable all these distracting elements, but only temporarily.

Some media players are start enough and will automatically turn off the screen saver during video playback. If you are using VLC, go to Video settings and check the option that says “Disable screensaver.” In Windows Media Player, go to Player options and uncheck the box that says “Allow screen saver during playback.”

If your media player doesn’t have such a feature, you can use this excellent utility called Mouse Jiggler to prevent the screensaver from becoming active. It moves the mouse pointer back and forth periodically so Windows will never go into an idle state and therefore the screensaver won’t show up.

The next task is keep your monitor awake during the video playback. Mouse Jiggler should care of this part as well or you may try Caffeine – it’s like Jiggler but simulates keystrokes instead of mouse movements.

There’s nothing to install or configure – just download and run Caffeine and your system will stay awake as long as you like. Double-click the Caffeine icon in the task bar and it will disable itself – all this without making any changes to your system register or power plan.

If you have too many apps running on your system, they are consuming system resources and some of them, especially the chat clients, may surprise you during playback with notifications. You can either right click-click in the task bar to selectively close these apps or get a utility like CloseAll that will automatically close all running applications with a click.

CloseAll closes all running apps by default (including itself) but you can also configure it to ignore certain applications by adding a simple exclusion list to the CloseAll.exe command line. Here’s an example:

CloseAll.exe -x="explorer.exe|firefox.exe|outlook.exe|dropbox.exe"
An excellent alternative to CloseAll is SmartClose – it will not only close all the running programs with a click but can also restore all these the programs once you are done watching the video.

It does this by capturing a snapshot of all the running process and services. If there’s a particular program or Windows Service that you would not like the utility to close, just add it to the protected list. The default settings are good enough though you can always choose the location where these system snapshots should be stored.

Finally, if you like watching videos while simultaneously working on other windows /tasks, check out Always on Top – this is again a free utility that will help you stick your media player window on top of other program windows. Launch the program, select the media player window and press Alt+Space bar to put it on top.

Easily Add a Logo to your YouTube Videos

Would you like to add some branding to your YouTube videos? Maybe an overlay logo or some sort of a watermark image that is permanently displayed in one of the corners of the video (similar to TV programming).

You can use any video editing software to add logos or watermarks to your videos before uploading them to YouTube but how do you put them in your existing videos that are already on the web?

Well, YouTube has a feature called InVideo Programming that will help you add any custom image to all your Youtube videos with a few clicks without having to edit the original video.

The image can be your brand’s logo (make sure it’s a transparent png) or use one of the YouTube buttons to promote your main YouTube channel inside all your videos.

You can choose to display the logo at the start of the video, somewhere in the middle or even for the entire duration of the video. Also, the logo can be placed in either corners of the YouTube player.

That said, YouTube internally uses annotations to display the images over the video and thus, if you a YouTube viewer has turned off annotations, your logo won’t be visible.

Play any YouTube Playlist with VLC Media Player

Do you know that VLC Media Player, the world’s favorite video player that supports nearly every video format, can also play YouTube videos on your desktop without requiring the web browser or the Adobe Flash player.

To get started, open the VLC player, press Ctrl+N to open the Network URL dialog and paste any YouTube video URL in the input box.

Play any YouTube Playlist with VLC Media Player

THE BENEFITS OF WATCHING YOUTUBE VIDEOS WITH VLC

The streaming videos will play inside VLC Media Player just like any other local video file while offering some additional benefits not available inside the standard YouTube player. For instance:

1. You can choose Video -> Always on Top inside VLC and the YouTube video window will stick to the foreground while you work on other tasks.

2. Press the Loop button in the player controls and the YouTube video will play non-stop in a loop (also possible with Chrome add-ons).

3. You can change the Playback speed of the YouTube video and make it run slower or faster than the normal speed.

4. Use the Tools -> Take Snapshot option to capture a screenshot image of any frame or scene in the YouTube video.

5. Watch the YouTube videos without the ads.

PLAY YOUTUBE PLAYLISTS INSIDE VLC

VLC, by default, only supports single YouTube URLs but it also possible to import an entire YouTube Playlist into VLC and watch all the videos in sequence.

Play any YouTube Playlist with VLC Media Player
You can watch an entire playlist of YouTube videos inside VLC Media Player.

Here’s the trick. Right-click and save this file to your desktop. Now open the VLC installation folder (%ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC) and move the .lua file into the exiting /lua/playlist folder.

Restart the VLC Media Player and choose Media -> Open Network Stream. Now paste the URL of any public YouTube Playlist here and the enjoy the videos.

In addition to YouTube, VLC Player can also play DailyMotion videos outside the browser. It is supposed to work with Vimeo videos as well but that is currently broken possibly due to a change in the URL structure at Vimeo’s end.

Upload your Photos to YouTube and Publish as a Video Slideshow

How do you share a picture slideshow on YouTube?

Previously, you would use a tool like Windows Movie Maker or Picasa to stitch the image files into a video for uploading to YouTube. That addition step is however not required as you can create a video slideshow from pictures directly inside YouTube. Here’s how:

CREATE A PHOTO SLIDESHOW IN YOUTUBE

While you are on the YouTube website, click the Upload button and then choose “Create” under “Photo Slideshow.” Here, switch to the Upload Photos section and drag-drop all the pictures that you would like to be included in your slideshow.

Once the photos are in timeline editor (see screenshot), you can drag them around to rearrange their position in the video. On the next screen, you have an option to change the default duration of individual slides and also the transition effect between pictures.

You can add background music to your slideshow though YouTube does not offer an option to upload your own audio files for the slideshow.

You can set the privacy to Unlisted if you would not like the video to appear in YouTube search. Also, YouTube might include ads in your video if you have attached a background track to your slideshow and the revenue in that case is shared with the music creator.
