How to Save Your Message History on WhatsApp

Five Methods:  On an Android  On an iPhone  On a Windows Phone  On a Nokia Phone  On a Blackberry

WhatsApp  is a cross-platform messaging app that allows users to communicate over Internet data or Wi-Fi without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp provides two options for users who wish to save their chat history: creating a backup of it or exporting it as a .txt file that can be sent over email. This article will show you both methods.

How to Save Your Message History on WhatsApp

# Method 1 of 5: On an Android

1. Launch WhatsApp on your smartphone.

2. Tap "Settings" from the menu.

3. Tap "Chat Settings."

4. Tap "Backup Conversations."

5. Export your chat history.  Go to your chats screen. Tap and hold on a conversation or group conversation you would like to send. Select "Email conversation," and decide whether you'd like to send the media as well. An email will be composed with your chat history attached as a .txt file.

# Method 2 of 5: On an iPhone

1. Back up chats in iTunes or iCloud.  Whenever you Back Up Your iPhone, your WhatsApp conversations will be backed up as well.

2. Restore your chat history.  To restore your chat history, you'll need to restore the entire backup, which includes your settings and data for the rest of your phone and its apps.

3. Export your chat history.  Launch WhatsApp and go to Settings >> Email Conversation.  From the Chat History screen, select the conversation you would like to save. Decide whether you want to email the history with or without the media. Type in an email address and press Send.

# Method 3 of 5: On a Windows Phone

1. Launch WhatsApp and open the main chat screen.

2. Tap the three dots in the bottom right corner for the menu.

  • Tap "Yes" to save your messages.

3. Export your chat history
  • Nokia S60: Launch WhatsApp. From the main screen, go to Options >> Settings >> Chat History >> Send Chat History. Select the chat you want to email. An email will be composed with your chat history attached as a .txt file.
  • On a Nokia S40: Launch WhatsApp and open the conversation you want to email. Tap Options >> Chat History >> Email. An email will be composed with your chat history attached as a .txt file.

# Method 5 of 5: On a Blackberry

1. Launch WhatsApp.

2. Go to Settings >> Media Settings

3. Set "Message Settings to Media Card.

4. Export your chat history. Launch WhatsApp from your smartphone and go to your chats screen.
Highlight the conversation or group conversation you would like to send. Press the BlackBerry button, then select "Email conversation."

Warnings:-

  • If you send the chat history with media attached, it will be a much larger file size and may take more time and data to send. If your phone has a message size restriction, it may truncate or fail to send your entire chat history.
  • The backup feature is only available in WhatsApp versions 2.9.2 and later. If you are running an earlier version of WhatsApp, please update to the latest version in order to make use of this feature.

Download your WhatsApp Contacts

The WhatsApp app on your mobile phone does not offer an option to download the profile images nor is there an option to export your WhatsApp Contacts for uploading into other address books like Google Contacts or LinkedIn. However, the contacts data can be easily extracted, or rather scraped, from the WhatsApp website in less than a minute with the help of a bookmarklet.

WhatsApp Contacts

To get started, drag the WhatsApp bookmarklet to the toolbar of your Google Chrome. Next open  web.whatsapp.com on your computer, wait for the website to load and then click the bookmarklet in the toolbar. You can either choose to have a CSV list of your WhatsApp contacts or create a print-ready addressbook of your WhatsApp network. This will have the high-res profiles pictures, the names and the telephone numbers of all your contacts.

The WhatsApp image URLs are session-based and thus cannot be shared. You can however press Ctrl+S or Cmd+S on Mac to download the entire web page created by the bookmarklet and it will permanently download the profile pictures to your computer as well.

Download WhatsApp Photos via Dropbox

When a photograph, or any media file, is received inside WhatsApp, it is automatically saved to the phone’s physical memory. The media is downloaded without you having to open the corresponding message (we are dealing with Android here, the iPhone version of WhatsApp may work differently).

Now that we know that the incoming image file is on the phone’s SD card, all we need is way to automatically transfer the file to our computer. That’s where Dropbox or Google Drive can help.

Download WhatsApp Photos to Computer

We can watch the Media folder of WhatsApp and as soon as a new file is added to that folder, it is automatically synced with Dropbox. MetaCtrl  has Android apps for Dropbox, Google Drive and Box that can help here.

1. Open your Dropbox and create a folder, say WhatsApp.

2. Launch the DropSync app and authorize it to access your Dropbox account.

3. Set the Local (watch) folder as /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images and set the Dropbox folder as the one that you created in Step #1.

4. Set the sync method as “Upload only” so that it is not a 2-way sync and only WhatsApp images are sent to Dropbox but not the other way.

5. Go to the app settings and change the Autosync Interval to 5 minutes (the default is an hour).

That’s it. Within minutes of you getting an image on WhatsApp, it will be sent to your Dropbox account in the cloud and since you have Dropbox running on your desktop too, the image will be downloaded on the computer as well.

Automatically Printing the WhatsApp Photos

The next step is to send these images from the Dropbox folder to your printer connected to the computer.

This isn’t difficult either. You can open this Windows Printing script on the computer and it will automatically send images from the Dropbox folder to the printer. A similar remote printing option is available for Mac and Linux as well.

Please do however note that this will download and print all WhatsApp images so you want to have a human layer that discards the non-essential ones.

Use WhatsApp as a Private Store for your Documents and Notes

The idea is simple. You create a new virtual contact inside WhatsApp and, everything that you wish to capture privately, you can just share it with this virtual contact.
It is not possible to send WhatsApp messages to your own number but there’s a simple hack to get around this problem. Create a new WhatsApp group with just a single participant – you.

Here’s how:

  1. * Open WhatsApp on your phone and create a new group.
  2. * Add any contact from your address book to this group. Give your group a name and save.
  3. * Now go to the group in WhatsApp, tap the subject to view the list of participants.
  4. * Tap and hold the lone participant in this list and remove them from the group.

That’s it. What you now have a private store in WhatsApp that is visible only to you and accessible from the web (desktop) and your mobile phone.
If you wish to transfer a document from computer to phone, open web.whatsapp.com on the computer, send the file to this group and it will instantly become available on your phone. There’s search built-in so you can easily find messages by keyword later.

Whatsapp Tricks and tips That you must know

The Whatsapp Messenger is an application that has been voted as being one of the top messenger applications by most users thus far.  When it comes to having an extensive list of premium features and overall messaging capabilities, the Whatsapp Messenger is known for having them all and being very user-friendly at the same time.

There are even many different Whatsapp tricks that can be used in order to enhance the efficiency and overall operational quality of this particular application.

Best Four Whatsapp Tricks

1)Becoming an Official Spy-

One of the most popular Whatsapp tricks that are currently being used is the opportunity to become a spy.  You can use this particular Whatsapp trick to spy on the activities of someone else’s account within this specific program.  In order to take full advantage of these capabilities, you simply just need to adjust the settings within the rooted device.  After those settings have been opened and fully accessed, taking note of the actual MAC address of that phone’s internal Wi-Fi connection is the only thing that will need to be noted.

2)You Do Not Need a Number-

There is also another Whatsapp tricks that can allow you to use this program without ever having to use a person’s specific number. This is accomplished simply by manipulating the actual verification request.

Many people have heard about this in the past, but have had no idea where to start in order to take full advantage of this capability.  The verification request will appear almost immediately after the program has been installed, so users just have to pay close attention and look out for it.

3)Retrieving Deleted Messages-

Another great Whatsapp trick is that users are able to actually retrieve messages that have already been deleted.  In order to have direct access to these messages, all that needs to be done is a particular file (the msgstore.db.crypt file) will need to be transferred to a different mobile device and then restored within the new device’s Whatsapp program.

4)Sending Pictures to Other Pictures-

Whatsapp is also capable of performing some pretty amazing functions simply by collaborating with other programs and applications as well.  For example, there is an application known as Magiapp that can work directly with Whatsapp in order to complete a fairly impressive picture transfer.  You can send one picture to another picture just by using this application, which is usually something that is done more for personal purposes instead of professional.
