Changed
the name of your business recently? Got married and changed your last
name to your spouse’s? While you can’t change your email address, you
can change your username that’s connected to your address to change how
people see you on their contact list. If you’re recently married, for
example, you can change “Jane Doe - jdoe@gmail.com” to become “Jane
Doe-Smith - @jdoe@gmail.com.”
To learn how to change your name, scroll to step 1.
Steps
1. Log into Gmail.
Go to www.mail.google.com, and log into your account with your e-mail address and password.
2. Go to “Settings.”
Just click on the gear icon on the upper-right corner of the window, and select “Settings” from the list of options.
3. Click on the “Accounts and Import” tab. This will display options. Look for the “Send mail as” section.
4. Click on the “Edit Info” link. It’s on the right side of your e-mail address. This will open the “Edit E-mail Address” window.
5. Edit your name. Just type in the name you now want to use on the text box, and click on “Save Changes” once you’re through.
Tips
- Remember that you can’t change your e-mail address. If you want a new e-mail address, you’ll have to create a new account.
- Changing your username will only show on the new messages you’ll send. It won’t affect those that you had previously sent.
- If you switch back to the first username set on your Gmail address, the newest one will get deleted.
