Lost
your new cell phone? Don't have a land line to call it? These easy
instructions will help you help you find your phone - in the simplest
cases, all you'll need is an internet connection.
> Method 1 of 3: Via Free Website (Simplest Option)
1. Visit one of the following websites. These sites offer services that can call your phone, free of charge:
- where's my cellphone.com
- I Can't Find My Phone.com
- http://ww41.phonegetters.com/ phonegetters.com]
- lostyoucell.com
2. Input your phone number and area code. No other information is necessary.
3. Press the "Call My Phone" (or equivalent) button. After pressing the button, your cell should ring within 30 seconds.
4. Listen for your phone to ring. If you answer the phone, you will usually hear a short automated message or ad.
> Method 2 of 3: Via Find My iPhone Utility
1. Make sure you have two eligible iOS devices. If you have a (lost) iPhone and one other iOS device (or a computer), the free Find My iPhone App offers a variety of options to help you find your phone. This method only works with lost iPhones that have previously enabled the "Find My iPhone" option in the iCloud app. To do this:- Select the "Settings" icon on your iPhone's home screen
- Select "iCloud."
- Select "Account" and sign in (your login information will most likely be the same as your iTunes login information.)
- Scroll to the bottom and move the iPhone slider to the "On" position (iOS 5 and 6) or so that it displays green (iOS 7).
- You may encounter a message notifying you that this will use the device's GPS information. Select "Allow
2. Download the Find My iPhone App from the App Store. You'll want to download the app onto the iOS device that isn't lost. Downloading the app is free. If you're using a computer to find your iPhone, simply log into the iCloud web app.
3. Sign into the Find My iPhone App. You'll need your Apple ID. This is most likely the same as the login you use for iTunes. When you sign in, the app will display a map and begin to try to find your iPhone. If your phone is turned off, it will use your phone's last known location.
4. Use the desired Find My iPhone function.
You have different options at your disposal depending on whether your iPhone is lost in your room or on the other side of town.
- If your phone is lost in your home, use the "Play Sound" option.
- If your phone isn't in your home, use the phone's GPS location to look for it.
5. Consider alternate options in cases of theft.
If you believe your phone has been stolen, the Find My iPhone app allows several additional methods to remotely protect your personal information. You may choose to:
- Lock the device. This option allows you to remotely set a password that will be required to use the device. To do this, select "Lock Mode" and follow the prompts.
- Erase the device's data. To do this, select "Erase iPhone." This option cannot be undone, though you may be able to restore your data from an iCloud backup when your phone is recovered
> Method 3 of 3: Via Android Lost App
1. Make sure you have an eligible Android device. This method works with phones that have the Android Lost app installed. The app is available for free download from the Google Play Store.
2. Open the app and select "Request Administrator Rights.
" This allows you to remotely lock your phone or erase its data if it is stolen. Scroll to the bottom and confirm your permission.
3. When your phone is lost, visit the Android Lost website. Log into [www.androidlost.com Android Lost] using your Google Account information.
4. Select the "Controls" tab.
Here, you will find straightforward instructions for making your phone make a noise. You can also locate your phone's GPS position here.
5. If you believe your phone has been stolen, select the "Security" tab.
Here, you will find options for password-locking your phone or erasing its internal data.
Tips
- If you have friends at your disposal, have them spread out around the phone's approximate area before making it ring.
- If your phone is lost somewhere nearby, turn off any fans, air conditioners, etc. It's easy to forget these simple distractions. If left on, they can make it difficult to hear your phone's ringing.
Warnings
- Make sure your phone is charged! If your phone's battery is depleted, it will not be able to make a noise or transmit GPS data.
